Fiber internet is the new cool thing in the tech world, but it can get confusing because from countrytocountry (even companytocompany), definitions vary. On this episode of Snazzy Labs, we install fiber internet and explain what FTTX means, the difference between AON and PON optical networks, and why Active Ethernet is going to be an awesome solution for us. How to get faster internet? How to get lower ping time? This is how. Gigabit speeds and sub1ms ping time to the rescue!

Starlink Install, Speed Test, and Review

Installing SpaceX’s Starlink with the volcano roof mount. Running speed tests and comparing Starlink to Telus Smart Hub. Rural internet solution!
𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩: \”a downward hanging loop in a line that runs to a building\”
A very important step that was missed and pointed out in the comments is using a drip loop. I should have ran the line below the wall penetration, then back up before entering the wall. This will allow any water that might travel down the line to drip to the ground and not direct it towards the wall. See 7:34 for an example of a drip loop.

Testing out my 1.5 gbps fiber connection using pfSense and a GPON SFP module!

Getting full speed out of my Telus 1.5 gbps connection using pfSense and a Broadcom 10gig ethernet card. Telus provides the GPON SFP module which normally plugs into their own supplied router. In my setup I have removed the module from their device and am running directly into pfSense.
The connection is advertised as speeds up to 1.5 gbps download, and 940 mbps upload.
